Unfortunately, there is no one left at Sony that can change the EQMac game code. The last developer left in late 2004 and Sony never rehired another dev. Thus, all of the bugs present in the game are here to stay. The following is a listing of them for archival purposes. As a point of note when referring to bugs: The code for the Mac version of EverQuest was split from the PC side in mid-October 2002. Thus most of the bugs fixes on the PC side that were done after this date will NOT be in the Mac version of the game. There were some minor nerfs and bug fixes done after Al'Kabor went live until the developers at Sony were reassigned to other projects.

[edit] Major Bugs

  • Lack of a "Fat" PPC/Intel client.
  • Video and audio lag caused by the DirectX emulation layer.
  • Out-of-order PoP flagging does not work for several Tier-2 and above bosses.
  • Turning sounds on can cause crashes (still). Possibly a Miles bug.
  • The Cleric Celestial Renewal and Celestial Regeneration AAs do not work together.
  • Harmony spells have an increased duration.
  • The Shadowknight "Voice" spells decrease (instead of increase) aggro generation.
  • The "Burning Affliction" focus does not work.
  • The Bertoxxulous encounter script is significantly different from the PC side.
  • The Rathe Council encounter is bugged (unconfirmed).
  • Spell Casting Subtelty decreases the effectiveness of aggro reducing spells such as the Wizard "Concussion" line.
  • /dopropertinting does not work.
  • Beastlords do not get the "Mass Group Buff" AA.


[edit] Minor Bugs Spell Related

  • Extended Affliction should be changed to Burning Affliction.
  • None of the mass enchant spells are in the spdat or the vendors in the game. These are all PoP spells, this includes ( but is not limited to ) both the Mass Enchant metal line of spells as well as the Mass Enchant Mana line of spells.
  • Celestial Regeneration, and a few other (at this time unknown to me) spells that are group or ranged are bugged such that they only affect the caster. It was fixed in the November 4, 2002 or November 19, 2002 PC patch.
  • Low lvl Malo line of spells override high lvl line of Malo spells.
  • Spell icons (as in buffs) drop without warning sometimes, when they should have had a blinking icon on it when it is going to drop.
  • Pet Health - if a pet has been given hit point gear, and its health falls to the point where it is only alive due to the hit point gear, it won't move until it has healed above that threshold. I.E - pet is given 500 hit point belt. Its health falls to 200. Pet will not move until health hits 501.
  • Extended Affliction should be changed to Burning Affliction.

  • Multiple translocate spells cast on a player will cause an error and neither will work.
  • Monster Summon Pet line of spells is bugged. Its a old bug, well hell it happens every now and again on PC but has been fixed on PC side.
  • Druid/chanter(i think) Tree* form doesnt work in DSP.
  • The Necro spell Sacrifice is no longer working as it should. Supposed to be able to sacrifice lvl 46* 64 and now can only sacrifice up to lvl 59, then you get the message "This toon is too powerful for this spell yadayada" reported by mango.
  • If you cast a spell shortly (within 30*60 seconds) after logging in, you will start to experience visual lag. (per Brad Oliver * There's been a longstanding memory leak in the client that will eventually cause it to thrash VM pretty badly. It's sound*related, but not Miles*related so the Miles library fix wouldn't affect it.)
  • If you re*cast a buff at precisely the right moment as the old one is fading, the buff will cast, you will spend the mana, but you will not get the buff. This is a major issue for Bards.
  • A resurrection message that occurs while a character is in the zone transition will be lost, instead of being displayed when they arrive in their new zone.
  • Sometimes while on a horse, you will be OOR for spells (e.g. heals.) This happens randomly, as you can be on a horse for a while and then suddenly be OOR. Re*mounting usually fixes it.
  • Shadowknight spell Mental Corruption fills your mana pool when it procs. I.E, it is a self buff proc, suppose to return a small amount of mana when it goes off, and reducing the npc health by 50 points damage. If you are at any level of mana and it procs, it fills your mana pool to 100% full.
  • Perma-pacification: Often called "perma-pacced" or "PP". Casting a pacify line spell on a mob that is susceptible to it in quick procession (ie: cast once on mob, have it affect the mob, cast it immediately again and have it stick for the second time) permanently pacifies the mob. This can be broken when: Someone comes in direct contact with it. The mob is cast upon. Or the zone resets. Of particular note is that a permanently pacified mob will only attack a person who aggros said mob. The mob does not generate ranged aggro with anybody else and once the person who aggroed it is dead, the mob resets and retains it's permanently pacified status.

[edit] Minor Bugs Non Spell Related

  • Keying for tactics, decay, and torment (probably BOT and HOH also) is broken. once you get all the quest pieces for the key, you're supposed to be able to turn them in and have the whole group get keyed. As of now, only the person who does the turnin gets keyed, and no experience is given (should be 1 AA per person).
  • Any messages sent over group say get lost while zoning. Any messages sent via guild chat get duplicated while zoning.
  • Raid Chat messages are seen by other people in a zone that are not part of the raid.
  • Guild invites will respond with a Guild Not Found message in certain zones, mostly newbie zones including Greater Faydark, Steamfont Mountains, and Nektulos Forest.
  • Shammy potion Gate of Shadeweavers will not combine.
  • You can't trade with someone on a horse. Reported by: Aristar, everyone else. Fixed November 19, 2002 on PC.
  • Pet pathing * When solo and a pet runs after a fleeing mob, once the mob dies, pet often keeps running straight ahead across zone occasionally, especially in scarlet desert.
  • BST Pets will just wander off in dungeons even after being given a /pet hold and a /pet back off pair of commands. They will stay where they should for a couple minutes, and then just run off chasing shadows or something. Summon companion ends up getting used a couple dozen times for a simple dungeon crawl.
  • Sometimes when someone dies they cannot see their corpse although others can. Re* logging sometimes fixes this.
  • seemingly at random, random items and/or bags will be missing from a corpse, inventory, or bank. GM has restored items to most of the people that this has happened to so far.
  • Summoning a horse near the walls in the planes can cause you to fall through the world and end up at the zone safe point.
  • When charming, it is possible to have a charmed pet (/pet health works, the pet cannot be affected by spells, and can be sent to attack) but his health bar does not show up underneath yours (either for the charmer or for other members of the group.) This seems to happen if you had a pet, tried to charm another one, and then re* charm the first one when charm breaks.
  • Beastlords had their fizzle rates adjusted* this was changed on December 4th of 2002. BLs fizzle quite a bit more than other hybrids, mostly it affects cross* class spells not BL* specific ones.
  • When you die near a wall in ToV (and possibly other zones) your corpse is transported to the zone* in area.
  • "<" does not ever display in a chat window, even with the badword filter turned off.
  • The Alchemist GM bag doesn't exist in the database, and subsequently the proper combine says that these items cannot be combined.
  • When someone puts up afk, the response to a tell to them sometimes contains just the beginning of their afk message and then 'boxes' (high* level ASCII characters) followed by text from their /gu or other tells. This can be used to obtain private chat from them.
  • Mobs in PoP zones get 'broken' somehow, and have massive aggro radius and run at sow speed. Bards can cause this to happen, but it has also happened immediately after zone reset. We have found there there is typically one 'bugged' mob that is affecting the others, and killing it will fix the behaviour of the other mobs in the area.
  • When you re* load your UI, any abilities such as kick, slam, etc. that are hotbuttons lose their names in your hotbuttons window (they just have numbers * * 1, 2, etc.)
  • Can't set up a hot key with more then one saying in 3 different channels.

  • When handed a container with items, NPCs will loot everything the container, and return it empty (Fixed on PC side May 2003).
  • When attempting a combine with stacked items, no message to unstack the items is given, the combine simply fails (Fixed on PC, May 2003).
  • When tradeskilling, if you accidentally drop in a stack of a component, the combine may also succeed and the rest of the stack is eaten.
  • Tayla Ironforge quest is broken at the second step. Give a jasper to Mare in Maiden's fancy, she gives appropriate text, but does not give Klok's Seal (fixed on PC Mar '03)
  • Toggle last two targets doesn't work: The code to toggle between 2 npcs targets came out after pop in march 2003.
  • Archery / world geometry bug. Devs know all about this one.
  • Some people cannot log into the game unless they add or remove one model from its last login config. A Reply: Bug confirmed, I've same problem as well. I just delete someething from my everquest folder, have it update and it works then.
  • When searching for items in the bazaar, have seen items ghosted onto another trader but listed for 2pp regardless of the item. I did a search for an item today, and saw it listed for the expected several hundred pp on one trader, and 2 pp on another. The trader that had it listed for 2pp in the /bazaar window did not actually have the item. I have had this happen several times, and the price of the ghosted item has always been 2 pp.
  • NPC Qaelin Hailstorm isn't in Surefall Glade, he should provide a Mark of Karana for cultural fletching.
  • In SSRA when pulling snakes down tubes or thru a door, they get stuck and or go up a wall instead of thru a door.
  • When someone is a raidleader and a group leader and they simply log (i.e. without transfering leadership first), the leadership will transfer to someone but may be bugged, in that the new leader can /makeraidleader someone else, and then their group shows up with no group leader. If they /makeleader someone they can fix it, or they can disband the group and reform. * Kyth
  • When you turn on velious armor textures with luclin models, chain and leather breastplates do not appear. Plate and robes works fine. Tested on 3 totally different systems by 3 different people.
  • Smithing recipe broken: Combine a large brick of enchanted ore with a flask of water. Result is a small brick of enchanted ore. Should be small brick (x3). (This problem applies to a number of smithing recipes. Most Large bricks when smithed give back 1 small brick as opposed to 3)
  • Music/sound in some zones/areas is scratchy. I remember a post from Brad Oliver ages ago when first trying to fix the sound bug that this was a result of redoing many of the sound files. Now that sound is working again it would be nice to get rid of these bad sound files that didnt actually fix the problem we once hoped they would.
  • The Mask of Espionage, which is the result of the Traitor to the Validus Custodus quest in Katta Castellum, cannot be recharged even though the NPC who hands it to you says "...Tilbok will know how to recharge it." Tilbok simply hands it back saying that he has no use for it. This was confirmed by Pugigi. The only way to recharge the mask is get a new one from a GM or repeat the quest. Patch History
  • If you send a tell *just* as you finish your camp, the game bypasses the char select screen and logs your character right back in. If you do anything after the timer hits 0, the keybuffer is saved and passed to the char select screen. The CR at the end of your tell told the select screen to load up again... This has happened to me quite a few times, though has only been an inconvenience. Please flush the key buffer when loading the character select screen from and exited game.
  • Captain of the Guard in City of Mist does not drop A Stone Key
  • The log files have a ^M after the date, which makes them annoying to read and parse (and makes them incompatible with PC logs.) And the formatting code for the date is using "%e" for the date format, instead of "%d", which makes the logs incompatible with PC logs as well.
  • For some reason whoever coded the client logging logic decided to close and re* open the file every single time they did a write. I'm not sure if this was a cheap way to flush the buffer or not, but the net result is that any sort of logging (including error logs) is more taxing on the client system than it needs to be.
  • Not able to finish some newbie quests due to missing drops. Examples: Small Mountain Lions in Steamfont should drop Mountain Lion Claws ever so often but nobody has seen them (Gnome Cleric). Black Wolf Tooth does not appear to drop anywhere and also has not been seen by anyone (Human Bard). Mountain Lion Claw malfunction noted on Allakazam as having been fixed some time ago in the PC servers. Could be the same problem.
  • Burning Affliction focus is broken. (does not sparkle on DoT spells)
  • Shaman GM bag (alchemy) does not combine.
  • When you /mci out, you get disconnected from chat channels. zoning fixes this.
  • Windowed mode does not work as it should. Window cannot be moved, and does not allow the cursor to leave the window. Command*Tab is required to change windows to the finder (or other apps) and back.
  • If you go AFK for a long period of time on a horse, you can not remove the horse by simply clicking the horse buff icon. You must use /dismount, which causes you to dismount, but the horse still exists. Basically, the horse becomes an NPC and interacts with other NPCs in PoK, for example, the mock*sparring in the warrior guilds.
  • Sometimes during zoning raid members can be dropped from raid with the simple notification that their raid has been disbanded when this is not the case.
  • Mobs that are buffed when charmed do not appear to have buffs wear off after charm breaks. We have seen mobs that are still hasted several hours after charm breaks. (beware any midget PoP mobs you see, they probably have more buffs on than just 'tiny companion')
  • Request: /autoinventory This would be a significant benefit to tradeskillers!
  • If you set the sky to Single Layer in the planes then zone out and back in again the sky will revert to Double Layer even though it's still set for Single Layer. You have to actually change it to Double or Off and then back to Single to get it to display properly again. Of course if the double layer sky wasn't seizure*inducing in the first place there would be no need to change it except to reduce lag.


  • Occasional zone LDs, in which your character gets stuck between zones and a GM is required to walk you out. For more information, talk to these players: Dradin (gets bugged in Eastern wastes) and Nikolai (gets bugged in Wakening Lands). They have had it happen dozens of times each.
  • /dopropertinting doesn't work.
  • Excessive zoning has caused my client to crash with an error message indicating a corrupt file. The client starts up again without any errors immediately afterward without making any changes to any files. This is unpredictable, but repeatable
  • Gram Dunnar in POK offers the Storytime quest, but cannot actually do the quest without a charm slot. No workarounds without LoY, at the moment.
  • Shaman alchemy skill is limited to 200 (not including items/AAs)
  • Everquest screen shots are in .pict format, which is not supported in Snow Leopards 64 bit preview app (the default app for opening pict files). You can choose to open preview in 32 bit mode, as a workaround.

[edit] Zone Bugs

  • Zone Timorous Deep either is missing its world file or has a corrupted file. None of the inanimate objects ( Such as the spirocs tower or the firepot spires ) are appearing in game. The spirocs appear to be floating in mid air.


  • There is a serious crashing bug in the hidden area (the area on the other side of the underwater tunnel) of Twilight Sea. It has happened to me three times. Once a long time ago when i was there with Fanizena, once by myself, and once recently when i was there with Lyrad. I crashed first and Ly crashed immediately after me. Once when i was there (shortly after a server reset i think) it was fine but very very laggy. It seems to be repeatable. * lanbana
  • PoTranquility and PoDisease sky is broken, not what it should be.
