An "epic" weapon for each class was implimented during the Kunark expansion. The epic weapon was to be the best weapon for that class, but to obtain it would require completing a lengthy and complicated quest. However, there have been three expansions since Kunark, and it is now possible to obtain better weapons. Nonetheless, many players opt to complete their epic quests, as most have unique effects on them that are useful.
