Food and Drink

EverQuest characters automatically consume food and drink from their inventories as time passes. New characters start with 20 water flasks and 20 rations, but after that is depleted they will have to purchase more from a merchant. Food and drink can be found through slaying NPCs and quests, but most players simply purchase it from a convenient location like their hometown or the Plane of Knowledge.

[edit] Consumption
Characters will consume one normal drink every ??? minutes and one normal food item every ??? minutes. If there is more than one food/drink stack in the inventory, the one closest to the front will be consumed first.
[edit] Penalty
If a player does not have food or water when the food timer hits, they will start to get spammed by "You are hungry.", "You are thirsty.", or "You are hungry and thirsty." messages accordingly. This has no noticeable effect at first. However, if this continues for ??? minutes, the character will no longer regain stamina. ??? minutes after that, normal health and mana regeneration outside of equipment or buffs will drop to only 1 per tick.
[edit] Food/Drink Lengths
In terms of benefit, all food and drink is identical (with the notable exception of stat food; see below). A character must simply have food and water on him in order to stop the regeneration penalty from occurring. That said, there are some food and drink that last longer than others.

[edit] Force-Feeding
If you right-click food or drink, you will automatically consume it, resetting the food consumption timer (note that the food/drink cannot be in a container for this to work). If you continue to "force-feed" your character, it will continue to increase the timer by ??? minutes for each food or drink consumed in this manner. The maximum amount of normal-duration food/drink that you can force-feed is ???.
[edit] Stat Food/Drink
There is high-level baking recipes that yield food and drink with stats on it. This essentially functions as additional equipment slot. The stat gains are automatically incurred as long as the food/drink is the first food/drink in your inventory, or in other words, the one you are currently "eating/drinking".
A common strategy to avoid the consumption of high-value stat food is to keep them as the first food/drink (so that you receive the stats) but continually force-feed other common foods/drinks every so often so that the stat food is never actually consumed.
The best stat food in the game is ???. The best stat drink in the game is ???.
