Mana

Your mana pool, if your class has the ability to cast spells, is represented on the blue bar. However, the game hides the numerical value of your mana in the character window. One can easily derive the actual figures though using the formulas below. These formulas work for all classes EXCEPT Bards (I haven't finished that one out yet, but it seems different than the others).

Unlike Hit Points, the mana pool is much easier to calculate. There are no charts or tables. Mana is determined by two major factors: Wisdom and Level. Wisdom adds mana at a rate roughly equal to 12.25 mana per point of WIS at level 65 up to 200 WIS, and 6 mana per point of WIS after 200. This is mostly true. There is a completely separate formula for Mana if your Wisdom is at 100 or less (when it is almost completely level based). This generally isn't an issue for most players. The formula that calculates mana is this (these can be plugged into an Excel spreadsheet). In the Formula, substitute your WIS or your INT score for M and your Level for L.

For WIS up to 100:

=SUM(((3*((M-MAX(0,TRUNC((M-199)/2),0))+200))/2)*L/20)

For WIS 100+:

=SUM(((5*((M-MAX(0,TRUNC((M-199)/2),0))+20))/2)*(L*3/40))

You will notice that there is just a bit to this formula. Effectively, the benefit of all WIS/INT gains over 200 are cut in half. This formula just figures that in. Also, while there are two formulas, at a WIS/INT of 100, both formulas return the same value.

Once the basic mana pool is calculated, gear adds to your Mana Pool exactly as listed in the item stats. When working with Mana, it is important to notice a couple of features. First, for characters with a WIS/INT below 100, the value of the WIS or the INT adds only trivially to the mana pool size. A level 20 character with a 10 Wisdom has 105 mana. A level 20 character with a 90 Wisdom has 145 mana. Also, even though WIS/INT plays a major role in mana calculations, it is still reduced in impact by level. The Shield of Bane Warding adds 20 WIS. At level 1, that 20 WIS (assuming your WIS is under 200) will add a whopping 4 mana to your mana pool. This isn't trivial by any means, but, a ring with a raw 30 mana bonus will outperform this shield until level 8. The shield though has an extremely high Wisdom rating for an item that can be passed around. The same shield, at level 65, will add a whopping 245 mana (assuming your Wisdom is under 200), making it very, very efficient. Of course, once your Wisdom is at the cap, adding more Wisdom does no good at all.
