[edit] Overview

The monk is a leather-wearing specialist melee class with a variety of unique characteristics. Like rogues, their sustained melee-based damage output is quite high. Monks' specialization comes in the form of a variety unique styles of kicking and punching, as well as some class-unique abilities.

While other classes learn to dual wield at 13, monks are the only class to start their career in Norrath with this ability. Monks can also instill doubt into mobs as an ability (rather than a fear spell). They can also learn to fall safely from high locations. Their sneak ability can be developed to rival a rogue's skill, which can help to reduce his aggro radius when pulling.

Monks are the only class to receive Feign Death as an ability, rather than a spell like necromancers and shadow knights. While it can still fail, it cannot be interrupted like a spell and is not mana-dependent. This makes monks very ideal pullers and decoys in zones where several mobs are situated very close to each other.

Because monks are melee dependent and cannot cast spells, healing is a concern. To assist in this, monks receive the ability to mend themselves. This can reduce their downtime by significantly healing their wounds. The monk class can also bind their own wounds and those of others up to 75% health, far exceeding the limit of non-monks. Iksars also have an innately higher regeneration than most other races.

The biggest challenge that monks face is that they must strictly watch their carried weight. Exceeding a carried weight of 14 causes a significant reduction in their armor class and agility, which ultimately causes them to take more damage when hit. This restriction is reduced later in the monk's career, especially with the use of weight-reducing bags. However, it can make earning money for the basics difficult early in life.

[edit] Playable Races

Both humans and Iksars can become monks. Monks hailing from Freeport follow the teachings of Quellious, and bear a mark on their torso. Qeynosian monks are agnostic. Iksar monks are disciples of Cazic-Thule.
