[edit] Origins

The Multi Alliance Council (MAC) was an early guild created on October 3, 2003 for Al'Kabor, EverQuest's only Macintosh server. It was an early attempt to create a democratically run guild as well as a framework to unite other guilds to combine forces and take down targets that none of them could do alone. It was created by Dagmann Skysurfer (the First Alchemist of Al'Kabor, and also the author of the guild's charter), Sedor Wolfeye (later known as Macsbeth), Lameni, and Diamond Truesilver (all of whom were friends and often team mates during the game's beta testing period) who all also acted as the guild's permanent Council Officers. The office of President of the guild was originally designed as more of a figurehead position and was originally held by Wrogenheir Wuneye, as the president only voted on council matters when there was a tie. The position fell into an even greater figurehead position with the early defection of Councilor Lameni to a rival guild, leaving the ruling council at three members and thus no ties were possible for the president to vote on. The guild's first president left the entire game a short time later for his own reasons.

The guild had many officers, as they were used primarily to recruit and evaluate new members. Many of these officers have risen to prominent places in the history of the Al'Kabor server. These people included the players who became known as Kaboom (originally Aenaen), Happy (originally Passion), Dakzsic E'Resh, Celias Damischievous, Mangroas, Zinovia, Glimi, and many others. By the guild's charter, only guild officers could be nominated for the office of President and the presidential elections were to be held semi-annually on October 3 and April 3 each year. (Those were never held, however, as the original iteration of the guild imploded before the following April) The officers were given great power in tagging new members and held true to the Council's desire to only invite players of high personal character and maturity. As a testament of their judgment, the Council Officers only had to step in a couple of times to take care of those not up to par that slipped through the cracks.

After the loss of Councilor Lameni and President Wrogenheir the membership held a special election to fill the office of President. They chose Officer Dakzsic to become the guild's second president. The Council Officers also voted shortly after this to include the guild president in discussions and voting in all matters, not just as needed for a tie-breaking vote, elevating the position from it's original figurehead role.

[edit] St. Patrick's Day Implosion

On March 17, 2004 the guild's Council Officers and President held a special meeting in the Nexus to discuss the future of the guild. In the months prior, the Council had noted several defections of valued players to rival guilds as they neared level 46 and the Planes of Power became open to them. Most recently was the loss of Officers Zinovia and Mangroas to Dark Conquest, and it was their leaving that prompted the meeting. It was discussed quite extensively and they voted 3 to 1 to seek out merging the entire guild into Dark Conquest, a guild that was determined to be the closest to MAC in long term direction and compatibility of membership. The dissenting voter, Councilor Diamond Truesilver, declared that he would never let MAC do this and threatened to use the guild leadership tag he possessed (from the day the guild was created. He never passed it to guild charter author Dagmann Skysurfer as he was supposed to from day one, nor to President Dakzsic as he was later supposed to do) to do whatever he wanted no matter the vote of the council. This position violated the guild's charter, and created an untenable situation within the guild. As a result, Councilors Dagmann Skysurfer and Sedor Wolfeye detagged and quit the guild on the spot. Less than 45 minutes later Dagmann had been invited to and joined Dark Conquest. The following day Dakzsic resigned from MAC as president and member. And over the course of the week after the 17th, the majority of MAC's senior members, officers as well as Sedor Wolfeye and Dakzsic E'Resh followed Mangroas, Zinovia and Dagmann to Dark Conquest. Which effectively accomplished what the Council had voted to do on St. Patrick's Day.

Diamond Truesilver attempted to soldier on with the remnants of MAC, but lost interest in the game and left deserted the remaining membership of the guild. Most of whom had no idea what had happened to the guild's leadership. Some attempted to carry on using the guild tag, but the charter it was founded on was thrown out and effectively it became a new guild that only shared it's name with the original.
